Aligning with God's Will Through Prayer
Pray First is one of our values as a church. In Nick's sermon on Sunday he pointed out that the purpose of prayer is not to align God's power to our will, but to align our lives to His will. Paul in Philippians 4:4-9 points to this truth, where in v.8 he says "Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable — if there is any moral excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy — dwell on these things."
We sang the song Gold from Jesus Culture this last weekend, which follows this idea for prayer as well, that what God is doing through our prayers and relationship with Him is refining us.
"Find me here in Your presence
I’m not leaving the same
Let your refining fire
Purify me again
Let the weight of Your glory
Bring me back to my knees
O God come with revival
You can start it in me
start it in me"
