Monday Devo - Truth Over Lies

In church we often say, “We fight Satan's lies with God’s truth.”

Easier said than done. Well for me at least. To be honest, on any day when I have a meeting or have anything significant planned that involves interaction with people, I usually wake up with anxiety and satan's lies in my head. Before the day even begins the battle is real. In those moments I have to make a choice. I will either let the lies sink in and win the day, or speak the truth of God against them.

It is Sunday morning as I write this, and I am preaching at church tonight, so naturally the moment I opened my eyes this morning I heard, “Who are you, you can’t do this. You won't see any fruit from your preaching, so why do it. People want it a certain way, and if you don’t give them that, then they will just stay home. You are not the guy for this…”

Before writing this, I watched Pastor Todd Stiles preaching at our sending Church, First Family. He opened by reminding us that no matter what 2022 brings, spiritual warfare will be a part of it.

2 Corinthians 10:3-6 Reminds us that our weapons are not of the flesh. We can’t just get enough willpower to buck up and deal with it. We need to engage, and fight the spiritual battle everyday, by speaking the truth of God. Preach the gospel to yourself everyday.

Ephesians 6:10-17 reminds us that we have the shield of faith to guard from the enemy's darts, but we also have the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God. The original word for ‘word,’ in this passage is Rhema, which is the spoken word of God. It is what Jesus uses in Matthew 4 when he is tempted by the devil in the wilderness.

So upon waking everyday, and hearing those lies, I need to speak the truth of God aloud, engage in the fight, remind myself, and Satan of the truth that the darkness cannot overcome.

You are a beloved child of God.

You are a son of the King.

You are forgiven, redeemed, bought and paid for.

You have been gifted.

You have a mission.

You are equipped for that mission.

You are weak, but He is strong.

You fight from Victory, not for Victory

Cast your cares at the feet of Jesus, for He cares for you.

God is good, He loves you even though He knows you.

He knows you, He sees you.

The list goes on. Church, fight the fight well, claiming the truth of God for your life everyday, every moment.
