Monday Devo - Where does my help come from?

Psalm 121

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
    where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
    the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord watches over you—
    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm—
    he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
    both now and forevermore.

I mentioned in my last Devo that Psalm 121 was one of my favorite passages of Scripture. I figured this would be a good opportunity to write a little about it.

Verses 1 and 2: “I will lift up my eyes to the hills - from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”

The pagans used to place the images of their gods on the top of hills, so they could look up at them. You can read throughout Scripture about the “high places.” It was a way of worship to whatever god or image they desired to worship. These verses destroy the notion that an image does anything. God strictly forbids us putting anything before him. In today’s society, it may not be a shrine that is worshiped in our homes. It can come in the realm of many other distractions that keep us from placing our full trust in Him. Verse 2 clearly lays out who our help comes from: The Lord, who made heaven and earth. This is our maker and Creator, and He designed it all. This world didn’t occur through hundreds or thousands or millions of years of evolution. It happened in a moment as He spoke it into existence. This is why I like to say I believe in the Big Bang Theory as He spoke, and BANG, it happened. Evolutionists are nearly there. They just deny God in the process.

The rest of the verses lay out how God is eager to take care of us. BUT, we must rely on Him. This doesn’t mean we will be monetarily prosperous. It doesn’t mean we will be super successful. It doesn’t mean we will not have trials and tribulations in this life. Remember, heaven is our hope whether by death or by the archangel shouting and the trumpet sounding. That is it. If we rely on the Lord, he will keep us.

I do want to point out my favorite verse in the Old Testament here. Verse 4: “Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.” There is wicked theology called Replacement Theology. It says the church replaces Israel which propagates anti-Semitic rhetoric and action. That makes God a liar if true which it is not. We are living in the church age, yes. God is not yet done with Israel. He will keep His promise to them. This is why He brought them back into their ancestral land in 1948. This is why the land of Israel is once again booming with agriculture and technology. This is why Israel has won every battle since 1948. This is why Israel is ready to build the Third Temple. All of this is in preparation for the 70th Week as given to Daniel by Gabriel. All of Israel shall be saved. God is never sleeping or resting. That is what the Millennial Kingdom is for: 1000 years of rest after 6000 years of sin in this world. Prepare yourselves!
