More study resources for summer series - What is the church?
This summer we will be pausing our expository walk through the Gospel of Matthew to study the topic “What is the church?” We will be sharing extra resources regularly to add into your toolbox and help you get a deeper understanding of God’s plan for the church and our individual parts in serving the body.
One such resource we want to put in your hands is the New City Catechism, which is a web app, phone or tablet app, as well as a print edition. “The New City Catechism is a modern-day resource aimed at helping children and adults alike learn the core doctrines of the Christian faith via 52 questions and answers.” All of the 52 entries are also available through The Gospel Coalition website with all the resources laid out in a blog post style.
To start out our summer series, spend some time looking at the New City Catechism Question 48, “What is the church?” There is the answer to the question, an original song, Scripture, commentary, devotional (with a video), and a prayer.
What is the Church?
God chooses and preserves for himself a community elected for eternal life and united by faith, who love, follow, learn from, and worship God together. God sends out this community to proclaim the gospel and prefigure Christ’s kingdom by the quality of their life together and their love for one another.
