Why did Jesus call these guys as disciples?

Why did Jesus call normal and unimpressive people to follow Him? Why did He choose the people He did, knowing their past and how they would mess up going forward? It’s almost like He’s trying to make a point. It’s not about their skills or connections, but that Jesus is taking an unlikely and even controversial mix and making the point that this diverse collection is representative of the new covenant and the new kingdom established through the Gospel. God is good and deserves all the glory, and as a messy mix of people in the church, may God get all the glory through our endeavors to spread the Good News of the new Kingdom that has come through Jesus Christ.

Check out this video thinking through the calling of the disciples and what that means to us today as disciples benefiting from their successes, failures, and growth as the first disciples and early church.
